SUMA-JKT Agri-Machinery project was launched in 2010 following a resolution by the government of the United Republic of Tanzania of 3rd August, 2009 to transform Tanzania’s agriculture into a modern and commercialized sector through the KILIMO KWANZA (AGRICULTURE FIRST) initiative. Its core objective is to increase the use of tractors and associated implements in farming and agriculture which in turn enhances the productivity and incomes of smallholder farmers, ensuring food security in the country and increasing employment opportunities for the rural dwellers. The project strives to make agriculture less burdensome, more productive and profitable by offering affordable and appropriate equipment. With a 14-year record of experience the project has imported and sold 3,000 New Holland and Farmtrac tractors which are to be found operating all over the county. On the whole farmers engaged in the project have been satisfied with the performance of the machineries and services offered by the SUMA-JKT Agri-Machinery project.
